THANK YOU to the National Railway Historical Society for selecting Nashville Steam and No. 576 for a 2022 Heritage Grant! This $5,000 award will go towards repairing and servicing the locomotive's original Coale safety valves. These critical components, also known as "pop" valves, are safety devices located on top of the boiler and automatically release steam from the boiler once it reaches a certain, pre-determined pressure amount. And because of our current matching grant, the award has been DOUBLED to $10,000! NRHS previously awarded a grant for the repairs to the Worthington hot water pump in 2019, which is now fully serviced and ready to go! We are so appreciative of their continued support of No. 576! #TechTuesday #SteamTheStripe ... See MoreSee Less

The tires are on and the heat is up for today's #TechTuesday! All of the new steel tires have been installed on 576's driver tires down at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga by our friends at FMW Solutions. A few of the original tires needed to be replaced so we used this opportunity to go ahead and replace all of them at the same time. The process to remove and install the tires is essentially the same by using the tire heating ring to expand them to be slightly bigger than the wheel. As they cool, the interference fit holds them in place. A big thank you to everyone who contributed during last year's Giving Tuesday fundraiser to help fund this project! #SteamTheStripe ...
