It's been awhile since our mechanical update, but that doesn't mean the work is slowing down! In fact, the overhaul of No. 576's original Westinghouse cross-compound air pump is nearing completion. The air compressor provides the needed air to work the train's braking system. The air is contained within 2 large reservoir tanks that are cast into the locomotive's frame. ![]()

A huge thank you to the John H. Emery Rail Heritage Trust for providing the funding needed to overhaul the air pump and our friends at FMW Solutions for performing the work. We can't wait to hear that classic rhythm and pulse that only a Westinghouse can provide. And that's not all!
