We're just a few weeks away from the Nashville Steam Spring Open House! Here's your chance for an up close, behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of No. 576. Our dedicated volunteers have made significant progress in the last few weeks and work on the boiler is nearing completion. Our event is being held in conjunction with the Tennessee Central Railway Museum's Open House and Spring Model Train Show. The shop will be open from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, March 29th. Admission is FREE! Don't miss this day of Nashville railroading! 🚂

The tender trucks are nearing completion following an extensive rebuild. Every component of each truck was disassembled and cleaned, and all consumable wear points were renewed. The most notable change was the conversion from the original 6x11 oil bath bearings to a standard 6-1/2x12 sealed grease bearing, which allows for interchangeability with more readily available equipment. Thanks to a donation facilitated by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, we also acquired replacement wheels perfectly suited for the tender trucks, too.![]()

The tender's car body has received primer, and the coal bunker has received paint. The final rivets and a stainless steel liner were installed into the stoker trough, which will help prevent corrosion and wear and tear on the trough. A water-filling ground station was installed to allow the filling of the tank from a fire hydrant, and all the appropriate valves and piping have been installed. The tender will be ready for a water test pending the installation of the trucks.

New year, new tubes and flues! Earlier this week, we took delivery of the brand new set of tubes and flues for No. 576. This piping will transfer the heat from the firebox to the water in the boiler to create steam and breathe new life into Nashville's locomotive. Installation of the tubes and flues will begin later this month. Thank you to all of our donors for helping us reach this milestone! ![]()
