On this #TechTuesday let's head down to Chattanooga to take a closer look at the new locomotive cab. After more than six decades out in the elements, No. 576's original cab was in rough shape so rather than tear down the old one, the Nashville Steam Team decided to construct an exact replica so the historic cab can be preserved and used as a future display piece. Learn more about the design and construction process and what the cab means to the people of Nashville!! #StripeHypeSpecial thanks to The Joyce Family Foundation, The Tom E. Dailey Foundation Inc., the ALCO Historical & Technical Society, and Mr. Roy Wullich for their contributions towards the construction of the new cab!!Click the link below for past episodes of The Road to Revival:bit.ly/2OgbTo9 ...

When life gives you an ice storm, you use the drop in temperature to install valve cages! Okay not really but we did have some help from our friend liquid nitrogen. Most of you probably remember in high school when the chemistry teacher shattered a rose that had been dipped in liquid nitrogen. It's the same principle, but instead of becoming brittle the cage will shrink up to 0.02" for easy installation. As it thaws, the cage will expand to a tight fit within the valve chamber. Thanks, science! And thank you to project sponsor Volunteer Welding Supply for making this project possible! #StripeHype #576ville ...

Like everyone else, we're using these cold days to stay in and finally get some modeling kits built. Of course our kits are 1:1 scale! On this week's #TechTuesday, we take a look at the fabrication of the new locomotive cab. The original cab from No. 576 was too badly deteriorated to restore to an operable condition so the decision was made to build a new one from scratch. #StripeHype ...
